Starting Over at 38!

Thursday, June 29th, 2006 by Madeleine

A confession: I haven’t had my period for almost 2 years. Between a pregnancy and nursing, it’s been strangely absent for a person who sells menstrual products for a living. But just the other day when I was doing some sewing (my favourite hobby - a happy coincidence, it strikes me) danged if I didn’t get that funny sinking kind of feeling and there was my period, simple as that. The funny thing is that I happened to have not only a Lunapad (a long pantyliner that I had taken home to wash and dry to test shrinkage), but also a pair of deluxe Lunapanties (working on some R&D for fit in this case) with me – hooray!

women on water, women of strength

I am always amazed and awed by the power and strength of women gathering together for a common goal. For the last 6 years, I have been coaching an all women’s dragon boat team based in North Vancouver. Each year, something special happens on this team that makes all the effort and time put into this sport worthwhile, and this year is no exception.

No more periods??

Monday, June 12th, 2006 by Madeleine

So what about this idea of getting rid of your period altogether?
A customer sent us a link to this article posted on Yahoo a few days ago.

I’m scared and sad about this supposed “trend”. While my first reaction is to get into arguing why it’s “wrong” or bad for your health to suppress your period, a deeper part of me knows that this isn’t really the point. My bottom line has always been and remains personal bodily sovereignty - in other words, if some women want to do it and it feels right to them, then I’m not going to mess with that. That said, here are my thoughts…

Meet the Lunagals: Madeleine

Monday, June 5th, 2006 by Madeleine

Madeleine.jpgI am so excited to be here writing to all you wonderful women who do us the honor of being curious about who we are and what we do. A few brief biographical details about me before we move on to more interesting topics: I was born and raised here in Vancouver, and love the city of my birth passionately. I attended University in Ontario prior to doing a lot of traveling and working abroad. I am an enraptured parent to Genevieve (or Miss Milk, as she is commonly known), who was born on April 10, 2005. I am married to her Dad, a very sweet man called Tim, who is an incredible source of love and support to me. Some other random personal tidbits: I am a left-handed Capricorn with a wicked sweet tooth who is also a proud reformed smoker, tennis enthusiast (although I refuse to keep score), novel-reader, armchair fashionista and sewing fiend.

Meet the Lunagals: Suzanne

Monday, June 5th, 2006 by Suzanne

suzanne_smaller.jpgHey Lunagals everywhere, here is my intro to the blogosphere. It’s exciting, as I’ve often fantasized about blogging (about the birth and journey of my 2 boys). Plus, I really enjoy reading a few friends’ blogs as well as lurking in the local motheringdotcommune discussion boards. But, I have never gotten around to it. So, Lunapads’ foray into the world wide blog is my chance! And it’s been really fun learning how to use the blogging tools and writing stories.

Meet the Lunapads Gals: Gonie

Ever since in my life, I haven’t put my mind to a blog or thoughts surrounded my self, because in my reality, as a human being I will exist through my belief to my passion, which is my work satisfaction. I’ve been encouraged to blog about myself, when I’ve heard such words or stories from my co-workers about Lunapads’ foray into the worldwide blog and it ignited my enthusiasm and curiosity to the concept!

Meet the Lunapads Gals: Sandra

As the gal who writes the customer service emails on a daily basis, one would think I’m okay about getting a bit personal. I can recommend what size pad you need for your flow and talk you through figuring out just how that Diva Cup works. But that is a little different than putting myself ‘out there.’ I’m noticing we’re all talking about our nervousness towards this task but with an air of excitement. I’m sure once we’ve done a few entries this will all be old news, but our first baby steps in to the world of blogging are wobbly indeed.

So we’ve started a Lunapads blog, and as a first foray into the online journaling world, I’m to write a short intro about myself. Since I’m really excited about the idea of the blog, and I do have a personal one of my own, the task ahead of me should not seem so difficult. And yet somehow, it does. I’m not quite sure how to adequately describe myself, how to put myself ‘on the page’ as it were. What would interest you, dear Lunapads readers? What is relevant? I guess I should start with the basics and we’ll see where I end up…
