Not true: see Karen Houppert's "The Curse: Confronting the Last Unmentionable Taboo: Menstruation" and Elizabeth Kissling's "Capitalizing on the Curse: The Business of Menstruation". Also, Houppert's essay in the Village Voice in 1995 caused lots of people to take notice.

I'll probably still submit something anyway :-)
