Lipstick for feminists? Introducing PeaceKeeper!

We are thrilled to be adding PeaceKeeper lip paint (lipstick), lip gloss and nail paint to our comfort collection at Lunapads.com. While it may seem like a bit of a stretch from menstrual pads to makeup, PeaceKeeper is far from your average cosmetics company, and we thought that our customers would appreciate the innovative work that its’ founder, Jody Weiss, is doing (not to mention her great products!) Whatever your personal views about makeup may be (and we’d love to hear them), I think that we can all agree that it’s a staggeringly massive business that often uses questionable ingredients and testing practices, uses its marketing to make women feel inadequate without its products, exhibits practically no social or environmental conscience, and… lots of women use it, ourselves included. So what if there was makeup that was made with all-natural ingredients, wasn’t tested on animals, and was made by a woman-owned company that gave all its after-tax profits to help causes like violence against women and cleaning up the planet?

If this sounds almost too good to be true, full disclosure: I met Jody at the Social Venture Institute this past September and instantly recognized a kindred spirit. This woman is pure energy, fuelled by the heart and passion of a lioness. We have had several conversations by phone and email since then, and can assure you that she is the absolute real deal when it comes to integrity. Like any business, though, she also needs customers, which is partly why we chose to pick up the line. Any business types out there care to imagine the challenge involved in taking on Estee Lauder, MAC, Revlon? We are talking big league stuff, and yet Jody has the courage and conviction to do it. Businesses like this matter so much, so whether you are a devout lipstick users or not, please consider these products the next time you’re shopping for a creative gift for a friend or wanting a colorful treat for yourself.

A personal summertime pick-me-up is to give myself a pedicure when I start my period. The Lunapads staff got together and picked out our favorite colors (I’m going for the ‘paint me grateful’ nail polish) and hope that you’ll enjoy them. Peace!
