Chicago’s L-Train Loves Lunapads!

I placed my first Lunapads order in 2004 and have never looked back. In fact, I can’t believe it took me so long to try them! Now that I have, I have slowly purchased nearly everything on the Lunapads website. I admit, I didn’t really see the benefit of a Lunapanties thong until I had to wear dressy trousers for a performance…now I get it! I love everything I have ever ordered from Lunapads!

Anyone who knows me, knows this, when I find something I love, I am unrelenting. If I were running for office my platform would be reusable menstrual products (and health care of course, but I’m an American). I’m proud to say that I have four converts under me and I’m working on more.

Another thing that my friends and family know about me is that I am excrutiatingly idealistic. It’s one of my favorite qualities in me. Being idealistic, I am quite convinced that it is possible to convert every woman, it’s just a matter of time. But how can I spread the word about Lunapads? I’m just one woman!

Last November, I moved to a new apartment. The neighborhood, Wicker Park, is great and I now live really close to work. The first night I spent in my apartment was loud. I wasn’t sure I’d ever get used to the “L” rumbling past my window every 7-10 minutes. The next morning, I awoke to a buzzing sound. Since I hadn’t put up any curtains yet, I merely turned my head to look out the window to see what was going on. When what to my wondering eyes should appear? A blue line train, stopped, full of morning commuters, staring right back at me. So I waved, a few waved back.

Hmmm… An idea!

I knew I couldn’t have the blue line riders waving good morning to me everyday, and I knew that my sheer pink curtains weren’t going to keep that from happening. I needed something that would completely block the view into my bedroom, a sign maybe? But what kind of sign? “Kerry/Edwards?” No, enough people display those signs on the red line (yes, even in 2007). “Proud to be American?” No…wait…I live in Chicago, not Mishawaka, Indiana. I know! Lunapads! Woo hoo!

I emailed the ladies to tell them of my brilliant plan. They thought that it sounded like a pretty good idea and not long after, a sign arrived in my mail!

Now, when people ask me where I live, I ask them if they ever take the blue line from OHare and I tell them I’m the building with the pink “I (heart) MY PERIOD” sign in the window, just before the Damen stop. You wouldn’t believe the number of people I’ve met who know exactly what I’m talking about.

So, if you’re ever in Chicago, and you take the blue line from OHare, look out the window to your right (in the direction of travel, after you leave the Western stop) and you will see it in my bedroom window… a shining beacon of hope for all women, or a strategically placed marketing piece, depending on how you look at it.

Now if only Lunapads made stickers for bikes!

And for those of you in Chicago, here’s how Lisa also enjoys spreading the word about Lunapads at yelp.com - an online review board.

Brilliant! I’d like stickers, too, but with the “ditch the disposables” saying on them. I’d slap one of those on my car!

  2. Dana Says:

That’s such a good idea! I would totally go for bike stickers, too. I love Lunapads!

  3. Emira Says:

I’d be all for that too! We should definitely look into bike/car stickers!

I was just thinking of Lunapads business card magnets. Then you could stick them up all over the city, even on the “L” and it wouldn’t be vandalism. And people could take them if they wanted.

Also, Lunapads home parties, which I would totally do for free…I’ve become the unofficial Lunapads help desk here in Chicago anyway.

And…one more thing…a fellow Yelper contacted me after the recent “Green Festival” here in Chicago, asking why Lunapads wasn’t there….hmmm…I don’t know!?!

Instead of bike stickers, you should use reusable shopping bags as advertising material!
