Lunapads does Folk Fest 2008

Friday, August 1st, 2008 by Charlene

Vancouver Folk Fest has been running for 31 years, and to a large number of Vancouverites it’s the cornerstone of the summer. For three days every year Jericho beach is transformed into a Wonderland of delicious food, ethical crafts, and best of all: incredible folk artists from around the globe. Lunapads hasn’t had a table at Folk Fest for quite a number of years, so it was an honour to take part in the festivities.

The Lunagals, (team intern: Jennifer and Char ) and Lunapads owner Suzanne spent the weekend getting to know our customers, building a new clientele, and listening to great music. The highlight of the weekend was Ozomatli’s main stage performance on Friday evening.. although free samples of Lunatic bars all weekend came close second.

Over all it was a fantastic weekend, and we can’t wait to “man” our Under the Volcano table next weekend.

So if you’re in Vancouver (August 10th) come check out one North Vancouver’s ode to Art and Social Change.. and don’t forget to stop by and get some great deals and more chocolate!

Thank you to Dave Niddrie for the photo, and all the lovely customers who stopped by to chat and support Lunapads!!

This is a love story…

It’s crazy to think that I live so intimately with someone else and – most of the time – really enjoy it. It’s quite amazing to find someone that you can get to know so well and still find charming as all heck. Dave and I have been together for almost 5 years and we finally managed to save up and get the time off to travel to Argentina – which besides just immersing ourselves in a new place; also ends up being a personal journey, and a good look in to our relationship. We discovered we can travel for 50 days – seeing and being with each other 24 hours a day – and have a blast!

Contribute to Blank’s new Menstruation book!

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006 by Madeleine

This is a very exciting opportunity to contribute to Hanne Blank’s upcoming anthology about menstruation. If you’re not already familiar with Hanne Blank’s (she is a Lunapads customer!) unique brand of hyper-progressive writing (her latest book is a history of virginity), learn more here. For those of you who are already fans, you can look forward to this…

Breakthrough Bleeding:
Essays on The Thing Women Spend A Quarter Of Their Time Doing, But No One’s Supposed To Talk About
Edited by Hanne Blank and Moira Russell
Forthcoming from She Devil Press, an imprint of Suspect Thoughts Press scheduled publication date Fall 2008.

FINALLY, a book that isn’t afraid of a little blood!
Between puberty and menopause, most women spend close to a quarter of their lives dealing with menstruation. But except for coming-of-age stories and the occasional Stephen King novel, all this spilled blood hardly creates a blip on the cultural radar. It’s as if someone has removed it all with a super-duper magic cleanser is ironic, considering what the rest of us go through to get the stains out!

Breakthrough Bleeding is here to change all that. Thoughtful, challenging, political, and maybe even sexy, this collection of essays looks at menstruation from the inside and the outside, a super-maxi size dose of heavy-thinkin¹ menstrual mojo.

- Has menstruated within the last 3 months?
- Has not used oral contraceptives/hormones within 3 months?
